Last week I had the pleasure to participate in the Agile Talk Show, talking about remote teams. The program is lead by Bruno Mello and Nelson Furtina, two former colleagues from IBM, who want to help people starting in the agile world, inside and outside their company.
It was incredible fun, when I was invited I started thinking on how to present myself and what I could say about remote work. First, I thought about the 3 most accessed posts in this blog, about best practices for remote teams:
- Establish a social contract;
- Set a time when everyone can collaborate;
- Use tools to facilitate this collaboration.
And when thinking about tools, I remember of the technology being used for medicine and distance education. Also, about games, like Pokemon Go (which I personally enjoy) and 3D/4D movies, that I know not everyone like, but I had an excellent experience when in Universal Parks, in Orlando, and in cinemas like IMAX in São Paulo.
Finally, I remembered Star Wars Movies (Star Wars fan alert!) and how they had those meetings from the Jedi council with holograms and it was amazing! How long will it take for us to have such incredible experience? And it was amazing that Bruno got to this same thought 🙂
So, that’s what I wanted to take to whoever whatched the talk show, not the definition of remote teams, cause they are already here and the real question is how to make it work. And, the answer for me, to motivate this team is to ensure we are able to provide them a good experience, when working with agile practices.
Briefly, this talk is about creating a space for collaboration with the right tools, setting the environment and process for this team work. Hope you enjoy and don’t forget to leave your feedbacks in the comments:
