If agile is all about continuous improvement, it certainly is all about six sigma.

Differently from waterfall methodologies, where we have one big planning cycle followed by execution and lessons learned, agile methodologies work as small PDCA cycles, for planning, do, checking (showcases) and act (retrospective).

And if you want to apply continuous improvement to your team, you need to:

– Define what’s going to be improved as a SMART goal;
– Define how you will measure it;
– Execute the change;
– Ensure your change is an improvement;

This is also known as the DMAIC cycle.

When we talk about measuring, teams usually don’t see the value in it, but, if you don’t define where you want to get, how do you know you’re done?
