Last week I was honored to participe of an open class about research on graduation at my university after all this years. I graduated in 2009 and, after that, I did an MBA and concluded my Master degree in Production Systems Management.

I was invited to this open class by my former professor and mentor of my graduation conclusion work, Sueli Soares. She asked me to tell the students about my experience with the Master degree.

At first I was glad with the number of students that showed up to hear us talk about research. When I started my graduation, I considered research an obligation and didn’t see how it could help me, and I was sure these students were thinking the same.

But, today I know that without research there would be no innovation and it is the research that helps me adapt and get ahead when adopting a new process or technology. Fortunately, I was able to tell this to them.
Research is about understanding how things work and how you can use them to improve everyone’s life and work. It’s essencial, specially on technology area, where we are transforming so fast.

Anyone can do research and it can be applied no only academically, but at all aspects of your work and life. I hope I was able to make it clear to these students and, perhaps, influenced at least one of them to pursue a career in research as I did.
