When working with a team and different clients, we may find people with divergent opinions, ideas and experiences.
In these situations, it might be hard to get to an agreement, specially when we relly exclusively on virtual communication as telephone, email and chats.
So, when it seems we are going nowhere, we need to take a step back and breath. That’s when empathy is needed.
Why is my coworker or client not able to understand what I’m saying?
Why is the project manager requesting this activity with an impossible target date?
Why a project member does is not completing his tasks?
To answer these questions, you need to place yourself on their shoes.
Maybe your coworker has a different experience and skill that will require you to explain what you need differently. Your client may be looking for another solution or requires a less technical explanation.
Maybe your project manager is being charged for a target date by a client and it’s out of his reach to change it. What can you suggest as a solution that will be delivered within the time provided?
Is your project member working other projects with different priorities? He may not have understood clearly your priority, the work required or his responsibilities. Or maybe he doesn’t have the skills needed for the work.
Loose your patience with your team or a client won’t resolve any problems and may make your work or project environment impossible to handle.
